Contradictions Galore!

Written by Emma on April 15th, 2010

I normally avoid going to dars (religious lectures) as most times they just have the opposite effect on me. I get put off by the extreme thinking or the contradictions.

May be I just expect too much. But then I think that anyone who thinks they can teach Islam to another, needs to be at a certain level themselves and make logical sense. Which sadly a lot of the women teaching Islam in my country are not especially ever since we have started churning out alemas (experts) with just a year of Islamic study.

The Laws of Attraction

Written by Emma on April 27th, 2007

I haven’t exactly read up on this but I’ve had at least 10 people tell me how one’s whole life is based on the laws of attraction.

So from what I know the law of attraction basically states that if you believe something will happen, then you end up attracting it towards yourself. If you believe you will make a million dollars, the universe will conspire and you will attract a million dollars.

I guess this is what was once called a self fulfilling prophecy. But the premise was of course much more realistic. And that is if you believe something bad enough, you consciously and sub consciously start working towards that goal. So much so that it actually happens. It is the power of the right or wrong attitude. It’s like if you believe hard enough that you will fail, how can you ever succeed with that attitude? Obviously you are gonna fail. If you are darn sure you will win, you will! Because then all your actions are directed towards that goal.

Lessons in History

Written by Emma on August 26th, 2006

Why don’t people learn from history?

History has taught us that anyone with ideas of world domination has gone on to expand their empire but only to an extent … after which they have all faced their downfall. Be it Ghengis Khan or Alexander the Great or be it Hitler, anyone who has tried it, has eventually faced their doom. Yet people … countries do not learn. The struggle for power goes on.

I used to wonder how people can be brainwashed into thinking that a person of a certain race or religion is such a threat that they need to be emiminated at any cost. And I wondered how and what can change a normal person so much that they can be bullied into that way of thinking?

Me, Myself and I

Written by Emma on August 19th, 2006

One thing I cannot stand is arrogance in people and believe me I’ve had my share of those. Its amazing the things people will find to be arrogant about.

This includes people who think they are totally amazing because of x factor. And believe me they can find a 100 different reasons that x can be replaced with. They think that no one in the world is as amazing as them because of xyz reasons.

All I gotta say is: People get over yourselves!!
And also: A little modesty never hurt anyone!

Thin, Thinner and Thinnest

Written by Emma on August 19th, 2006

There seems to be a mania about getting thinner and thinner nowadays. Is it something in the air or some germ in the water since it seems like almost everyone’s got it?

I can understand healthy thin and smart thin. What I don’t get is anorexic thin. The kind where you look at a person and think, “Oh Gosh! How do all the organs and bone and flesh fit in there!?” And then you are forced to think, “Errr, what flesh?”

Some curves are nice – in all the right places, of course ;-) A stick thin, flat girl looks plain weird! I have seen girls I though had perfect figures and looked great!!! But guess what I heard them complaining about?

It’s a world gone mad! And that is the only explanation I can give!
