In most cities of the world, walking a few blocks is no big deal and people do it on a daily basis. Contrary to this, you are not expected to walk at all in Karachi. This is ironic considering the unavailability of decent public transportation. However, even crossing a road is an ordeal and most people are mortified to experience it.
Following this philosophy, the sidewalks in Karachi are for anything but walking. They usually do not have enough space for any kind of decent movement, let alone walking in full stride. Why?? All sorts of reasons: beggars, addicts, plant nurseries, fruit vendors, clothing vendors, carpet vendors, pottery vendors.

Well I thought this was an appropriate way to start…
Now I have a section where I just ramble on and on, a section where I post movie reviews (I love watching movies) and even a section where I post my pet peeves. So I am wondering what is left … may be I’ll post here when something out of the amazing happens in my day to day life.
So dear diary…just wanted to let you know…one of these days…I’ll be back!

So what is this craze about Diets! All type of Diets…protein diet, south beach diet … seems like every Tom, Dick and Harry is coming up with a plan of their own and writing a book about it!
I don’t believe in starving myself or denying myself the small pleasures of life (namely fried foods, junk food, chocolates, coke, etc
). However, what I do believe in is controlling the amount of food you eat. Its not what you eat but how much you eat … at least that’s the philosophy that works for me.
I have seen so many women saying, “oh I don’t eat anything … I have no idea where I get all that fat from.” One day I actually got to look at the amount of food they were piling up on their second or third helping and I knew where all that fat was coming from.

Taking a shower can be so relaxing especially when it’s your escape route from the oppressive weather and the so called noise pollution. Sometimes, I get my best (or is it worst??) ideas during a shower.
But today I realized that being in deep thought during a shower can be hazardous at times. First, I almost burnt my hand by closing the cold water and totally forgetting about the hot water tap. And then, I hit my head on the tap while getting up.
OUCH!!
It barely missed my eye!
Thank god, it didn’t leave a bruise!
I’ll try to stop thinking in the shower but I don’t think I can. I guess I’ll just have to be more careful with the tap.
Never thought thinking could hurt, though

So yesterday I wear these jeans which have been like tucked away for a year (not my fault… they just got lost in the oodles of clothing!) And wow does it feel good to realize they still fit me. But sadly in spite of that, the perpetual paranoia that I’m fat and getting fatter doesn’t go away.
Then, I come across a friend of my sister, and this is the second time in my life that I am meeting her:
Sister’s friend: Hey, you look like you have lost weight since the last time I saw you.
Me: (gaping and speechless with disbelief)
Sister’s friend: You look more fresh too.
Me: (recovering a little) umm I think I’ve gained weight since last time.
Sister’s friend: No you definitely look smarter.
Me: (fishing for a reply and finally realizing my manners) ohh….thank you.
And she leaves me wondering if I’m overly paranoid or was she just being nice to me.
